How do I Show Hidden Files and Folders in Windows?

All faculty, staff and students have the ability to view hidden files on their Windows 7 computers.

Windows 7:

  1. To show hidden files, click on the "Organize" button in any folder, and then select "Folder and Search Options" from the menu.

  2. Click the "View" tab, and then select "Show hidden files and folders" in the list. If you are trying to access hidden directories in the Windows folder, you should also remove the check from "Hide protected operating system files."

  3. Click "OK."
     


    Windows 8.x:
     

  1. Double-click the "This PC" icon on your desktop to open the file browser.

  2. Select the "View" tab.

  3. Select "Options."

  4. Click the "View tab," and then select "Show hidden files and folders" in the list.
     
  5. If you are trying to access hidden directories in the Windows folder, you should remove the checkbox from "Hide protected operating system files" as well.

  6. Once you are done, click "Apply" then "OK."
