How Do I Connect My Smart TV to the UNCW Network for Internet Access?

Questions Answered in this Article

Answer

All faculty, staff and students have the ability to connect their smart TVs to the UNCW Network for Internet access.

Connecting Your Smart TV through an Ethernet Port

  1. Plug one end of Ethernet cable into your TV and the other end into the yellow wall port.

  2. In the TV settings' menu. Locate and note the wired MAC address. Often, the MAC address may be found in the general settings or Network settings' menus. The wired MAC address may be called “wired MAC address,” “Ethernet address” or “RJ-45 address,” depending on your smart TV.

  3. Visit the My Devices portal (only accessible from on-campus), and register the TV's MAC address.
  4. Turn the TV off, and then turn it back on. It now should be connected to the Internet.

Connecting Your Smart TV to UNCW's Wireless Network

  1. Go into the TV settings' menu. Locate and note the wireless MAC address. The MAC address may be found in the general settings or Network settings' menus, depending on your smart TV. The wireless MAC address may be called “Wifi MAC address” or “Wireless MAC address” or “MAC address” if your TV is wireless only.

  2. Submit a Connect your Entertainment Device service request to have your smart TV registered. Please be prepared to enter the following information:
    • First / Last Name
    • Wireless MAC Address
    • Contact Phone Number
    • Device type (ex., Nintendo 3DS / Switch, Echos, Roku's)

If you need further assistance, please submit a service request or CHAT with TAC.
