How do I connect my smart tv to the Internet?

Question

How do I connect my smart tv to the Internet?

Answer

All students on campus have the ability to connect their smart TV to the Internet.

If your smart tv has an Ethernet port:

  • Ensure that the tv is connected to the wall via the Ethernet port
  • Go into the TV’s settings menu and locate the wired MAC address. The MAC address may be found in the general settings or network settings menus. The wired MAC address may be called “wired MAC address” “Ethernet address” or “RJ-45 address”
  • Register this MAC address at mydevices.uncw.edu
  • Turn the TV off and back on again and it should be connected to the Internet

If your smart tv does not have an Ethernet port:

  • Go into the TV’s menu and locate the wireless MAC address. The MAC address may be found in the general settings or network settings menus. The wired MAC address may be called “wifi MAC address” or “wireless MAC address” or “MAC address” if your TV is wireless only.
  • Submit a ticket for having the TV registered on the Labnet wireless network here (link to https://uncw.teamdynamix.com/TDClient/1875/Portal/Requests/TicketRequests/NewForm?ID=f-cM3g-cBAU_ form). We will need the following:
  1. First / Last Name

  2. Wireless MAC Address

  3. Contact Phone Number

  4. Device type (ex., Nintendo 3DS / Switch, Echos, Roku's)

More information on Labnet can be found here (link to https://uncw.teamdynamix.com/TDClient/1875/Portal/KB/ArticleDet?ID=35159 labnet article)
