How do I Fix an Installer Stuck on “Verifying” in Mac OS X?

Answer

All faculty, staff and students have the ability to fix an installer stuck on "Verifying" in Mac OS X.

*Please note: The very first step should be to re-download the ".dmg" or ".pkg" installer, and always get it from a trusted source (get the installer or update directly from the developer and never from a third party downloads site). If you know the installer package is legitimate, completely downloaded and not a corrupt file (through hash verification or otherwise), but the problem persists, proceed with the steps below.

  1. From the "Finder" on your Mac, press "Command + Shift + G" and enter the path "/System/Library/CoreServices/."

  2. Locate "Installer.app" and open it.

    CoreServices Window

  3. Navigate to the ".pkg" file that is stuck on verifying and click to open it.

    OS X Finder File Window

  4.  It should now run through the package installer or update as usual.
