Question

How Do I Archive My Email In Office 365?

Answer

All faculty, staff and students have the ability to archive email in Office 365.

*Please note: We recommend you set up policies on your email folders that tend to hold a lot of data over time.

For a Windows Computer:

  1. Open Outlook.

  2. Right-click the folder on which you wish to set up archiving and select "Properties."

  3. Click on the "AutoArchive" tab.

  4. Choose the policy you wish to apply.

  5. Click "OK".

For a Mac Computer:

  1. Log into OWA.

  2. Right-click the folder on which you wish to set up archiving and select "Assign Policy."

  3. Select the policy you wish to apply.

  4. Click "OK."

To view an archived email:

  1. For outlook, your archive will appear in the folder list on the left side of your Outlook program screen and will be titled "Online Archive - doej@uncw.edu".

  2. On OWA, your archive will appear in the folder list on the left side of your OWA screen and will be titled "In-Place Archive - Doe, John".

*Please note: Though the folders have different titles, the archive is the same.

What do I do with my PSTs?

  • Once migrated to Office365, any locally archived emails (stored in PSTs) are still accessible within your Outlook program just like they always have been. You can choose to upload your PSTs to Office365 simply by dragging the emails contained therein up into your UNCW account (within Outlook).

*Please note: We recommend only migrating up to 250 emails at once in order to give your computer time to sync those messages to Office365.
