How do I Connect my Device to Labnet?

Question

  • What is Labnet?
  • What kind of devices are allowed to connect to Labnet?
  • How can I get my device connected to Labnet?

Answer

All faculty, staff and students have the ability to connect a wireless-only device to Labnet.

  1. Labnet is a wireless Network that was created so that wireless devices that can’t connect to hawkwifi can still be used on campus.

  2. Devices that can connect to Labnet are those that are not 802.1x compatible (devices that can connect to hawkwifi by using your UNCW username and password) AND are wireless-only devices. Examples of devices that can connect to Labnet are Nintendo Switches, Nintendo 3DSes, Amazon Echoes, Wireless-only smart TVs, etc.

  3. You can request that your device be allowed to join Labnet by submitting an ITS Request ticket here

We will need the following:

  1. First / Last Name

  2. Wireless MAC Address

  3. Contact Phone Number

  4. Name of device (ex., Nintendo 3DS / Switch, Echos, Roku's)
