How do I Access my TIMMY Storage Folder?

Question

How do I access my TIMMY storage folder from on or off campus, using a Mac or Windows computer?

Answer

All students have the ability to access their TIMMY storage folder using the below methods.

On Campus:

Windows 10:

  1. Type "\\timmy.uncw.edu\students\username\" into the Cortana search bar. Replace "username" with your UNCW email address (without the @uncw.edu).

  2. Press the "Enter" key.

Mac:

  1. Click the "Finder" icon in the dock, or click on your desktop.

  2. Click "Go" in the menu bar.

  3. Click "Connect to Server," or press command+K.

  4. Type in "smb://timmy.uncw.edu/students/abc1234" (Replace "abc1234" with your UNCW username).

  5. Press Connect.

  6. Input your email username and password when prompted, and click “OK.”

  7. It is recommended that you do NOT save your password as they expire every 90 days (may cause problems after expiration).

  8. Once you are connected, you will see your Timmy folder and its contents. Your Timmy folder will be mounted in Finder under the “Shared” section.

  9. You will then be able to copy the folders to your local computer to work on them and then copy them back up to TIMMY after saving – it’s that easy!

Off Campus:

  1. In order to access your TIMMY folder off campus, you will first have to connect to the UNCW network through a VPN client. You will only be able to download and use the VPN client while off campus.

  2. Instructions for setting up the VPN client can be found here for PC and here for Mac.

  3. Once you have the VPN client set up, follow the steps above to connect to your TIMMY folder.
