How do I Connect my Wii U to UNCW's Network?

Question

How do I connect my Wii U to UNCW's Network?

Answer

All faculty, staff and students have the ability to connect a Wii U to UNCW's Network

*Please note: All gaming consoles need to be connected via the wired Ethernet Network using a yellow port. Gaming consoles WILL NOT connect to the Hawkwifi wireless Network. Please use an available port located in your common room or personal room. You will need to purchase a USB to Ethernet adapter. We recommend finding one certified by Nintendo.

  1. Go to "Wii Settings" to access the "Wii System Settings" menu.

    Wii U Menu

  2. Select "Internet."

    Wii U internet Menu

  3. Select "View MAC Address."

    View MAC Address Button

  4. You will see your MAC address listed on this screen. Use the "USB LAN adapter" address. Even though it will be displayed in the format of XX-XX-XX-XX-XX you need to type it into MyDevices as XX:XX:XX:XX:XX.

  5. Once you have obtained your MAC address, it will need to be registered on MyDevices using the following information:

    • Go to https://mydevices.uncw.edu (You must be on the UNCW campus Network to register.)

    • Enter your UNCW username and password to sign in to MyDevices. Follow instructions to add your devices.

    • You may have 5 total devices registered on MyDevices.

Still not connecting?

  1. Try to restart your Wii U to see if that resolves the issue.

  2. Ensure that your Ethernet cord is plugged into a yellow port.

  3. Try to unplug the Ethernet cord from the port, wait 30 seconds, and then re-plug the cord into the port.
