All faculty, staff and students have the ability to use a data port.
 

Find your Data Port

*Please note: You will plug the Ethernet cord into an available yellow port. Do not use the white port.

All devices, including computers must be registered on the myDevices portal before connecting via Ethernet. For more information, review the article "How do I Connect my Game Console, Entertainment or Streaming Device to UNCW's Network?"

There are Ethernet ports mounted on the wall of nearly every room on campus. Review the image below.
 

Find your Data Port Number

*Please note: ITS may request a data port number to complete a service request or for troubleshooting. If your data port does not have a number and you need to provide it for a service request, please provide the room number and a description of the location of the port.

Your data port number can be found on the Ethernet ports on your wall. Look for the letter "D." In the examples below, they are circled in red

*Please note: You will plug your Ethernet cord into the "LAN3, LAN2 or PSE-Lan1" ports. Do not use the "Pass-Thru" port. If submitting a service request, provide your dorm room location and the label of the port you are using (e.g., "LAN2").

Each room in the P3 dorms has an access point mounted on the wall that provides Ethernet ports and wireless access. The bottom of the access point looks like this:

Port Descriptions
 
  • Pass-Thru - Do not use this port.
     
  • LAN3 - Active Ethernet port.
     
  • LAN2 - Active Ethernet port.
     
  • PSE-LAN1 - Active Ethernet port that provides Power over Ethernet (PoE) to power devices.
