Answer
All faculty, staff and students have the ability to upgrade their UNCW-owned macOS device using the Self Service+ app or software update.
*Please note:
- As of December 31, 2026, in order to meet compliance requirements for supported Apple operating systems, any macOS device not running at least macOS 15 (Sequoia) will be out of compliance and subject to mitigation.
- Upgrading to macOS Golden Gate does not require administrative privileges.

Open system settings from the Applications folder.

On the General pane click Software Update on the right.

When the Software Update pane opens, you should see macOS Golden Gate upgrade available as long as your device is compatible.
- Click Upgrade Now or Upgrade tonight based on your preference.

The upgrade process should begin.

Once the process has been completed, your device will restart and return to a login window with the new version of macOS installed.
*Please note: The upgrade process is anticipated to take around 60 minutes. However, the time may vary based on your internet speed and computer performance.
