Installing SAS

UNCW-Owned Computer

Personally-Owned Computer

TECH TIP: If you are on campus, connect to Hawkwifi or use a wired connection (preferred). If you are off-campus, use the VPN. For help, see the knowledge base article "How do I Set Up & Use the VPN (Virtual Private Network)?".

*Please note: SAS is a large program that may take several hours to install. Please be patient. There is a significant delay in opening and navigating through the installation window.

  1. Simultaneously press the "Windows" key (Windows logo) and "R" key on your keyboard. The Run window is displayed immediately.

  2. Enter “\\seashare.uncw.edu\SAS\SAS9.4NEW” (without quotes), and press Enter.

  3. If prompted to authenticate:
    • Select "More choices" located at the bottom left of the authentication window.
    • Enter your UNCW username in the format "uncw\abc1234" (without quotes, note the backslash) and password.
    • Select "OK."

  4. Select "setup.exe" > "Run."

TECH TIP: It will take a few minutes or longer for the installation window to fully load. If you are prompted to allow the program to make changes to your computer or receive a message about an untrusted location, select “Yes." You may be prompted to enter administrator login information.

  5. Select your preferred language and then "OK." It will take a few minutes or longer for the installation window to fully load.

  6. Select "Next" twice. On the "Select Deployment Type" window, select "Install SAS Foundation and Related Software" and then "Next."

  7. Select "Next" on the remaining installation window options, unless you would like to further customize your install. Most users are fine with the default options.

TECH TIP: On the "Select Language Support" window, it is recommended to deselect unneeded languages to save disk space

     8. On the final "Deployment Summary" window, select "Start" to begin the installation.

Renew SAS License

*Please note: On December 31 of each year, your SAS license will expire. You'll need to load a new one by March 31, or you'll receive an error message that SAS has expired.

In order to determine the correct license file you must know the following 3 things:

  • Your SAS version.
  • Your operating system (64/32-bit).
  • Your site number.
