How do I Verify my Identity with the TAC?

Question

Answer

All faculty, staff and students may be requested to verify their identity with the TAC under certain situations when they need help regaining access to their account.

Why would I need to verify my identity?

*Please note: There are 3 situations in which the Technology Assistance Center (TAC) would need you to verify your identity. This requires you to show a government or school issued photo ID. Those situations are listed below.

  1. If you cannot remember your password and are unable to change it yourself because you have not registered with the UNCW Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR) portal, your identity will have to be verified before the TAC can set a temporary password for you to use.

  2. When you cannot log into SeaNet, and the TAC needs to send you a temporary PIN.

  3. When you are unable to authenticate to your UNCW account using Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) because you don't have access to your registered second device (lost or broken phone, etc.).

How the verification process works

  1. Make contact with the TAC by either coming to the Technology Walk-in Center on the first floor of Randall Library, or by entering a Service Request. If entering a Service Request, be sure to leave a phone number or alternate email address.

  2. If a temporary password / passcode is needed, you will need to verify your identity with the TAC. Verification must be done visually. It requires you to show a government or school issued photo ID in person at the TAC or through a video call via Bomgar, Microsoft Teams or Zoom.

*Please note: The technician who assists you may be working remotely during video calls where you need to verify your identity.

TAC will never ask you for your password, nor will they ever need to know it. If anyone knows your password for any reason please change it as soon as possible.

If you need further assistance, submit a service request or CHAT with TAC.
