How do I Change or Reset my UNCW Account Password?

Question

How do I change or reset my UNCW account password?

Answer

All faculty, staff and students may use the Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR) portal to change their password.

*Please note:  Before beginning the steps below, if you have not registered your UNCW account in the Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR) portal, please visit the Change / Reset your UNCW Password page, and click on “Register for SSPR.”

  1. Once you are registered for SSPR, go to the Password Change Portal.

  2. Enter your full UNCW email address (ex. "sammy@uncw.edu") in the "User ID" field.

  3. Type in the security code characters that appear in the picture, and choose “Next.”

  4. Select one of the verification methods that you chose when initially registering for SSPR. Provide the correct responses, and then select “Next.”

  5. On the “Choose a new password" page, enter a new password, confirm your password, and then select “Finish.” It takes a few minutes for the password to update across all UNCW services.

When your domain password is changed, it may take up to 15 minutes. If the account gets locked, it will unlock after 5 minutes.

*Please note: Passwords must meet the following criteria:

  1. Cannot be a repeat of the last six passwords used.
  2. Contain a minimum of 8 alphanumeric characters.
  3. Contain both upper and lower case letters.
  4. Contain at least one number (for example, 0-9).
  5. Contain at least one special character. (Allowed characters include: ~ ! @ $ % ^ & * _ - + = ` | \ ( ) { } [ ] : ; " ' < > , . ? / )
