How to upgrade your UNCW-owned Mac to a new major version using self-service?

Answer

All faculty, staff and students have the ability to upgrade their UNCW-owned macOS device using self-service app.

How to upgrade your UNCW-owned macOS device to a new major version using self-service?

TECH TIP: What if you don't see the option to update? If the "updating to macOS Sonoma 14.x" option is not visible, your Mac is ineligible for an upgrade due to age or hardware limitations. In such cases, consult your manager or supervisor to explore options for life cycle replacement or securing funds for a replacement within the next 12 months.

  1. Access Self Service by opening it from the "Applications" folder or searching for it via Spotlight.
  2. Log in to Self Service using your UNCW username and password.
  3. Once the main screen loads, click the "macOS" category on the left.
  4. You should then see Update policies that are eligible for your device:

  5. Click on the "Update" button to start the upgrade process.

  6. Once the upgrade process has been completed your device will restart and return to a login window with the new version of macOS installed.

*Please note: This process is anticipated to take around 60 minutes. However, the duration may vary based on your internet connection and computer speed, potentially extending beyond the estimated time.
