All approved Asset Authorities and Asset Coordinators have access to view and verify assets within the TIM Verify Application.
Navigating TIM Verify
- Open the TIM Verify Application.
- After meeting TIM, you will see the following screen, where you can click the "Computers" button to access the application. Those without permission will see a “Get more information” button, which redirects to the "Roles & Responsibilities" page in the TIM Hub. This page outlines the roles authorized to use the application and provides a link for requesting access to the TIM Verify Application.
TECH TIP: There may be instances when you will be asked to verify application permissions. If this screen appears, click the "Allow" button to proceed.

- You will be presented with the main gallery view of assets that are assigned to the department that you have been granted permission to manage as an Asset Authority or Asset Coordinator.

Top Side of the Screen/Asset Information
- You will find information about the asset, including:
- Make & model
- Service tag (ST)/serial number(SN)
- Current user of the asset
- Purchase date
- Department & building the asset is assigned to
- Current user's email address
- Current status of the asset
- If the asset has been verified (indicated by a green check mark for "Yes" or a red X for "No")
- Whether or not the asset has connected to the UNCW network in the last 90 days (if not, "Connection Active? will display a red X).
Bottom Side of the Screen/Navigation Tools
- Search Box: Find a specific asset quickly by entering the Service Tag or Custodian Username.
- Page Size: You can select how many assets are displayed in the main gallery view. Your options range from 5 to 50. The default is 5.
- Go to page: Enter the page number of the assets you wish to view.
- Filters Button: Upon clicking this button, you will be transferred to the "Computer Filters" options page. For more on filtering, see below.
- Add Asset Button: Upon clicking this button, you will be transferred to a form to request that an asset be added to the department's inventory.
- Export Button: Allows you to export all assets in the main asset gallery to Excel. Note that the information exported is based on what is currently being viewed. If filters have been applied, the exported information is based on them.
- You can see the number of asset pages in the main gallery view and the total asset count. This information will update based on any filters applied. *Note: if you are an Asset Coordinator(AC)/Asset Authority(AA) for multiple departments, by default, you will see the total number of assets for all of the departments that you are assigned as the AC/AA.
- Navigation options allow you to move forward or backward easily, changing the assets displayed. You can jump to the last page of assets and back to the first page. If you have selected a "Page Size" larger than 5, a scroll button will appear on the right side of the screen to scroll up and down.
Using Filters
- From the main asset gallery page, click on the "Filters" button, located in the bottom-left corner of the page. This action will take you to the "Computer Filters" page, as seen below.

- Explore Filtering Options: From this page, you can choose from several different filtering options to customize your view.
- Apply Filters: Once you've selected the desired filters for the main gallery view, click the "Back" arrow.
- Modify Filters: If you wish to change the filters later, simply:
- Click on the "Filters" button from the main gallery page
- Then, select the "Reset Filters" button to remove the applied filters.
Verifying Assets
- From the main asset gallery page, click the big blue arrow located to the right of an asset to select it.

- Upon selecting an asset, you will be transferred to the asset details page.

- The "Status "Recorded" field shows you the current status of the computer in the TIM Inventory database. If TIMS has been updated through previously submitted computer service requests, the computer details screen will show the most recent saved information about the computer asset.
- The first step is to update the record if the computer details are incorrect.
- Select the current status of the computer.
- In Use: The computer is actively being used.
- Inventory: The computer is being stored for future deployment.
- Unknown: The computer could not be found, may have been transferred to another department, or may have been sent to Surplus.
- Next, you will select the computer's classification. This information helps you to understand how the computer is being used.
Classification Types: (These definitions may also be viewed by clicking on the "?" to the right of the classification field.
- Employee: Computers assigned to employees for individual use.
- Instructor Station: Computers in a classroom used by instructors for teaching purposes.
- Loaner: Computers that are available from a loaner pool of equipment to be loaned to students, faculty, or staff.
- PCI Device: Computers configured for PCI compliance (credit cards, ticket sales, etc).
- Shared: Computers shared between part-time employees, student employees, etc.
- Speciality: Computers used for a specific reason (DE Control, scoreboards, electron microscope, vendor-supplied, kiosks, etc)
- Student Station: Computers primarily used by students for academic use (labs, research/testing, learning commons, laptop carts, etc)
- Undefined: This is not a valid option to select if the status is "In Use". If the "Inventory" status is selected, the classification will automatically be set to "Undefined".
- If the computer is in a fixed location, you'll specify the building and room it occupies. If it's designated for an individual who teleworks, you put "Telework" in both the location and room fields.
- In the "Owner" field, enter the individual's name on the computer. When the computer is classified as "Employee," the owner's name is required and must be entered. All other classifications do not require the "Owner" field to be populated. If no name is entered, it is automatically assumed that the Asset Authority or Asset Coordinator is responsible for the computer.
- Next, you will be required to select the "Highest level of sensitive data the device handles per the UNCW Data Classification Levels.
- The final step is to enter any comments you would like recorded about the computer asset, then click the "Verify Record" button.
- Once you have verified the computer asset record, click the "Back" button to return to the main gallery view to select another computer asset to verify.
*Please note: After a computer asset has been verified, there is a one-week window allowing changes to be made to the computer record. Once the one-week window has elapsed, the computer record will be locked, and no additional changes can be made to the computer asset using TIM Verify. If updates are needed, the appropriate service request must be submitted. These service requests can be found in the TIMS HUB on the Manage Assets Page
Exporting to Excel
- If you want to see all of the assets assigned to your department(s), you can click on the "Export" button at the bottom of the main gallery page.
- You can adjust the details exported to Excel by first applying filters and then exporting the information.
