Question

How do I Connect My Android Device to VPN (Virtual Private Network)?

Answer

All faculty, staff and students have the ability to connect their Android devices to UNCW's VPN.

  1. Download the AnyConnect client from the Play Store.
  2. Accept the End User License Agreement by tapping OK.
  3. Grant the AnyConnect app permissions to your phone.
  4. Tap “Connections” under AnyConnect VPN.
  5. Tap "Add New VPN Connection".
  6. Type a description in the "Description" box, type vpn.uncw.edu in the "Server" box, tap OK and tap "Done" at the bottom of the screen.
  7. Tap on the newly created vpn.uncw.edu connection to go back to the main screen.
  8. Tap the “Off” button next to AnyConnect VPN to connect.
    • You may see an Untrusted VPN server screen. If so, tap the “Change Settings” button and uncheck the “Block Untrusted Servers” check box and tap the “<” button at the bottom of the screen to go back to the main menu.
    • Tap the “Off” button next to AnyConnect VPN to connect
    • Tap “Continue” if an untrusted certificate warning box pops up
  9. Type your UNCW username and password to connect.
  10. Tap "OK" on the Connection request screen.
  11. Your Android should now be connected to the VPN. You can verify your connectivity by checking for a key symbol in the upper left corner of your screen.

*Please note: You will be unable to connect your device to the VPN while connected on any of UNCW's wireless networks.
