How do I log in to the VPN with Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)?


All faculty, staff and students have the ability to log in to the VPN.

*Please note: Enrollment in Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) is required to log in to the VPN. 

Need help setting up VPN on your computer? Please visit one the following knowledge articles:

  1. Launch "Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client."
  2. Click "Connect."

  3. In the new dialog box, type in your UNCW username and password. Then type one of the following:
    • "push" - DUO will send a push notification to your registered device with the DUO app installed.
    • "sms" - DUO will send a text message to your registered phone. The initial login will fail, and you will need to re-enter your username, password and the text code that was just sent to you.
    • Type in the one-time code generated by your key fob or DUO app.

  4. Click "OK" to connect.
  5. Once you have finished with your UNCW work, click "Disconnect" in the AnyConnect client, as connections may be slower when using VPN.


Not all teleworkers need to use VPN services to perform their work or learning functions. Most UNCW services are Web-based and can be accessed through a Web browser or Horizon

VPN is not needed for the following services:
  • Horizon
  • Outlook Email / Office 365 Email
  • Canvas
  • OneDrive
  • SharePoint Online
  • Microsoft Teams
  • Echo360
  • Zoom
  • Office 365
  • WebNow
  • Cascade
  • mySeaport
  • SeaNet
