How do I Open/Save Files on Horizon?

All faculty, staff and students have the ability to save files in Horizon.  

*Please note: The following instructions are using the VMware client (installed on your computer). If you have not set up the Horizon VMware client on your computer, please follow the "How do I Set Up Horizon on my Computer?" instructions.  

 

Open or Save Files to Local Computer or USB Drive
 

  1. Log in to Horizon.
     
  2. Open the application you wish to use.
     
  3. From the application, click "File" and then "Open/Save/Save As" for that application.
     
  4. Navigate to "This PC."

  5. Identify the intended drive:
    • Drive X: Local Storage (Denoted by “\\TSCLIENT”)
    • Drive Y: USB Drive (Denoted by “\\TSCLIENT”)
    • Drive Z: Mapped network drives (e.g., Sammy, Timmy)

      TECH TIP: If you do not see "\\TSCLIENT", or "Network drive X:",  please enable “share your local files” in the Horizon sharing settings.

      1. Click on "settings" in the top right-hand corner.

      2. Select "Drive Sharing," and ensure "Share your local files" and "Allow access to removable storage" are checked.

  6. Navigate to the location of your file or where you want to save your file.
    • Opening a File: Select the file you wish to open, and select "open."
    • Saving a File: Input a file name, and select "save."


Saving files to OneDrive
 

*Please note: In Horizon, you will only be able to access OneDrive when using the "UNCW_Desktop" or a Microsoft Office application


Horizon UNCW Desktop
 

  1. Log into the Horizon "UNCW_Desktop." 
     
  2. Open the OneDrive application, and wait for it to load.

  3. Open "File Explorer" to access OneDrive.

  4. You may now open from or save to the “OneDrive – UNC-Wilmington” location in Horizon "UNCW_Desktop."
     

Microsoft Office Application
 

  1. In Horizon, open any Office application (e.g., Access, Word, Excel).
     
  2. Select "File" on the top left.

  3. Select "Account," and then click "Sign In."

  4. Sign in to your UNCW account using your full email address.

  5. You may now select “OneDrive – UNC-Wilmington” as the open or save location.
