How do I Print to a Department Copier?

Questions Answered in this Article

Answers

All faculty and staff have the ability to use a Department Copier.

*Please note:  Every academic and administrative building has a least one or more Department Copier location (also called "Faculty-Staff iPrint Release Station"). For more information, please visit the Printing Services website.

This article applies to faculty and staff only. For instructions on how to use iPrint as a student, please visit the iPrint website.

Identify a Department Copier

Department Copiers look like the image below. They are differentiated from student iPrint release stations by the finisher attachment (outlined in red).

An iPrint Printer/Copier

TECH TIP: If the printer you would like to use does not look like the image above, it is not a Department Copier. To print to another printer (e.g., HP), please submit a service request. Select "Local USB Office Printer" to use a printer directly connected to your computer or "Department/Network Printer" to use a printer connected to the network. You may disregard the remainder of this article.

Request Access to a Department Copier

Submit a service request to request access. Select the "iPrint Printer/Department Copier" and the "Printer/Copier access changes" options.

There are two printing options available for faculty & staff:

  • Secure Print / UNCW ID - Retrieve your print job from any Department Copier on-campus. Requires One Card authentication.

  • Direct Print - Retrieve your print job from a specific Department Copier on-campus. Your print job is printed immediately without requiring One Card authentication.
    • If you are requesting direct print access, provide the three-digit number found on the Department Copier's orange sticker when prompted (e.g., 277 in the below example).

      Release station device ID sticker.

TECH TIP: Secure Print / UNCW ID is the method recommended by Printing Services. Direct Print is only permitted if the Department Copier is in your immediate area.

  1. Print from any program and select the "Staff-Faculty-Only" printer.

Microsoft Word with the "Staff-Faculty-Only" printer circled in red.

TECH TIP: Before sending a print request, use "Print Preview" to print only the pages you desire. This is very useful when printing pages from a website, as your department will be charged for the number of pages printed.

  2. In the "Print Job Details" window, enter your UNCW username (e.g., sammyseahawk - No "@uncw.edu"), and give your print job a name so you can identify it later.

"Print Job Details" window with "Enter ONLY your Email User Name (Ex. abc1234), Please enter a name for this job, and Print" circled in red.

  3. After entering your information, select "Print" or "Cancel." Once you select "Print," your job will be available for 24 hours. After the 24-hour period, your print file will be deleted.

TECH TIP: You may receive a pop-up indicating the cost of the print job. Please note this is charged to your department fund and not to you personally.

  4. Go to any Department Copier on campus to release your print job. Only released print jobs will be charged to your department fund.

  5. Touch your UNCW One Card to the card reader indicated by the orange sticker and wait for the beep.

"Place your UNCW Onecard Here" orange sticker located on the release station.

  6. After logging into the Department Copier, it will load to the "Copy" screen. Please press the "Menu" button.

After selecting the print job(s), press the blue "Start" button. The cost of printing will be charged to your department fund, and the print job(s) will be sent to the printer.

TECH TIP: You also have the option of deleting the job. Select the job(s), and press the "Delete" icon at the bottom right of the screen. Note: The cost for each job is calculated prior to printing.

Direct Print

  1. After a Client Service Technician has added the Department Copier to your computer, print from any program and select the Department Copier number that corresponds with the Department Copier you would like to use (e.g., UNCW292 in the below example).

Printing window in Word with direct printer "UNCW292" circled in red.

  2. The print job will immediately begin printing at the Department Copier, and your department fund will be charged.
