How do I Connect to Hawkwifi on my Computer or Mobile Device?

All faculty, staff, students and guests with active accounts have the ability to connect to the campus Wi-Fi network, Hawkwifi.

*Please note: Devices not listed here - including gaming consoles, entertainment or streaming devices - connect through the labnet Wi-Fi network or hard-wired connection instead of Hawkwifi. Connect on Windows

 

  1. Select the Network icon on the taskbar next to the clock.
     
  2. Select the "hawkwifi" network.
     
  3. Enter your UNCW username (e.g., abc1234) and password.
     
  4. If prompted, select "Connect" to confirm the connection.

 

Connect on macOS

*Please note: The minimum requirement to be able to connect to Hawkwifi for a Mac is macOS Mojave 10.14. If you are running an operating system older than this, you must upgrade to at least Mojave. For instructions on how to upgrade your Apple computer, please see Upgrading my Mac Operating System.

  1. Select the Wi-Fi icon in the menu bar on the top right, then select "hawkwifi."

  2. Enter your UNCW username (e.g., abc1234) and password.
     
  3. If prompted, on the "Verify Certificate" window, select "Continue."

*Please note: If the "You are making changes to your Certificate Trust Settings" window appears, enter your Mac username and password. This is the same information used to log in to your Mac. For UNCW-owned Macs, this is your UNCW username and password.



Connect on Chrome OS (Chromebooks)

 

  1. Follow the Connect your Chromebook to Wi-Fi article on the Chromebook support website.
     
  2. Select the "hawkwifi" network.
     
  3. If you are just prompted for the identity and password, enter your UNCW username (e.g., abc1234) in the "identity" field and your UNCW account password in the "password" field. If you are prompted to provide additional information:
    • EAP Method: "PEAP."
    • Phase 2 authentication: "MSCHAPv2."
    • Server CA Certificate: "Default."
    • Identity: UNCW Username (e.g., abc1234).
    • Password: UNCW account password.
    • Domain: "uncw.edu"
       
  4. Select "Connect."

 



Connect on IOS / iPadOS (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch)

 

  1. Select "Settings" > "Wi-Fi" > "hawkwifi."
     
  2. Enter your UNCW username (e.g., abc1234) and password.
     
  3. On the Certificate window, select "Trust."

TECH TIP: After connecting, it is recommended that you disable "Limit IP Address Tracking" and "Private Wi-Fi Address" to improve connection consistency:

Select "Settings" > "Wi-Fi" > tap the blue "i" icon to the right of hawkwifi > Disable "Limit IP Address Tracking" and "Private Wi-Fi Address".


 

Connect on Android

 

  1. Select "Settings."
     
  2. Depending on your device and Android version, select either:
    • "Wireless & Networks" > "Wi-Fi Settings"
    • "Connections"
    • "Wi-Fi"
    • "Network & Internet" > "Internet"
       
  3. Select "hawkwifi."
     
  4. Enter the following information:
    • EAP Method: "PEAP."
    • Phase 2 authentication: "MSCHAPv2."
    • CA Certificate: "Use system certificates" or "Don't validate" (Android 9 and greater)
    • Domain: uncw.edu
    • Identity: UNCW Username (e.g., abc1234).
    • Password: UNCW account password.
       
  5. Select "Save" or "Connect."

*Please note: On Android 9 and greater, select "Don't validate" for the "CA certificate" option. To determine what version your device has, follow the Check & update your Android version article on the Android Support site.
