How do I Resolve Trial or Serial Number Prompts in Adobe Acrobat?

Answer

All faculty, staff and students have the ability to resolve trial or serial number prompts in Adobe Acrobat.

*Please note: All faculty, staff and students have access to Adobe Acrobat Pro DC. Occasionally, Acrobat may prompt you to start a trial or enter a serial number. This issue is resolved by signing out and back in (solution 1) or reinstalling Acrobat (solution 2). If you continue to have this issue after performing the steps below, submit a service request, and ITS will verify your account has Acrobat assigned.

Solution 1: Sign Out / In To Acrobat

 

*Please note: Before trying this step, sign out of the Creative Cloud desktop app (if applicable):

Towards the top right corner of the Creative Cloud desktop app, click the blue circle. In the drop-down menu that appears, click "Sign out."

  1. From the "Help" menu in Acrobat, select "Sign Out." If prompted, select "Sign Out" again. Acrobat will automatically close.
     
  2. Open Acrobat on your computer.
     
  3. From the "Help" menu in Acrobat, select "Sign In." If prompted, select  "Sign in Now."
     
  4. Enter your full UNCW email address (e.g., sammyseahawk@uncw.edu) and select "Continue."
     
  5. If you are using a UNCW-owned computer, you may be automatically signed in. Press "Continue" to dismiss the window. If prompted, continue with the rest of the sign-in process.

    If you are using a personally-owned computer or are not automatically signed in, select "Company or School" account (if prompted) > Enter your full UNCW "email address (e.g., sammyseahawk@uncw.edu) and password > Select "Continue." If prompted, continue with the rest of the sign-in process.
     

Solution 2: Reinstall Acrobat
 

*Please note: If you are using a UNCW-owned computer and don't have the Creative Cloud desktop app installed, installing "Adobe Acrobat" from the Software Center (Windows) or Self Service (Mac) will install the Creative Cloud desktop app. Software Center or Self Service will recognize Adobe Acrobat is installed and only install the Creative Cloud desktop app. After the Creative Cloud desktop app is installed, proceed to step one of the below instructions.

  1. Uninstall "Acrobat DC" from the Creative Cloud desktop app. For further assistance, review the Adobe knowledge article "How to uninstall Creative Cloud apps."
     
  2. Reinstall "Acrobat DC" from the Creative Cloud desktop app. The "uninstall" button will now be labeled "Install."
     
  3. Open Acrobat DC. If you are using a UNCW-owned computer, you may be automatically signed in. Press "Continue" to dismiss the window. If prompted, continue with the rest of the sign-in process.

    If you are using a personally-owned computer or are not automatically signed in, select "Company or School" account (if prompted) > Enter your full UNCW email address (e.g., sammyseahawk@uncw.edu) and password > Select "Continue." If prompted, continue with the rest of the sign-in process.
