How do I Install the UNCW Softphone Jabber Client?

All approved faculty and staff have the ability to install the UNCW Jabber Softphone Client.

*Please note: Prior to installing the Softphone Jabber Client, you must request ITS to configure the service. If your Softphone service has not yet been configured, please submit the "Office Phone and Voicemail Service Request."

How do I install Softphone Jabber Client for Windows and Mac users?

 

  1. For Windows, install the client through Software Center, and follow the prompts for installing the client.
     
  2. For Mac, use Self Service to install UNCW Softphone Jabber Client.

  3. After the UNCW Softphone client has been successfully installed. Please proceed to follow these instructions Jabber | Sign In and Connect to Services which will assist you in completing your login to the UNCW softphone client. 
     

    TECH TIP: When you are asked to provide your email address, please type your full UNCW email address (e.g., kennyc@UNCW.edu). When you are asked to provide your UNCW username, do not include "@uncw.edu."

  4. Once logged in, your next step is to add your physical location into the Jabber application for e911 purposes. See How do I add my physical location into the Jabber application for e911 purposes? for instructions. 


How do I install the Jabber Client on my Android or iPhone?
 

  1. Download Cisco Jabber directly from the App Store or Google Play. Follow the prompts to complete the install on your device.
  2. After the Jabber client has been successfully installed, please proceed to Jabber | Sign In and Connect to Services. These instructions will assist you in completing the login to Jabber.

    *Please note: While you may try using the App Store to download the Jabber client for an iPad, this may not work correctly. We are currently working to obtain more information for our clients from our vendors.



 How do I add my physical location into the Jabber application for e911 purposes?
 

  1. To add your location, click on the "mye911" icon on the left menu.

    The is the e911 Icon found in the jabber client and mye911 is highlighted.
     
  2. Type in your UNCW email address, and click "Next" to register your mye911 client.

    This is the MyE911 welcome page where your UNCW email address should be enterd.
     
  3. A one-time security code will be sent to your email address in order to sign in and login.
     
  4. Type the security code from the email sent to you, and then select "Submit."

    This is the e911 security code entry page that you would of received in your email.
     
  5. To start filling out your location information, select the "Add Location and Set as Current" button.

  6. Type in a "Location Name" and "Address" once your location appears, and then click "Add and Set as Current Location."
