How can I install Read & Write Gold on my UNCW-owned Mac?


All faculty & staff are able to install R&W Gold on their University-owned Macs

*Please note: You will need to be an admin to complete the installation of Read & Write Gold.  If you are not an admin on your machine please contact the TAC at 910-962-4357.

  1. Access Self-Service by opening it from "Applications" folder or searching for it via Spotlight.
  2. Log in to self service using your UNCW username and password.
  3. Once the main screen loads, click the "Self Service" category on the right side.
  4. You should then be able to find the Read & Write Gold installer on this page.

  5. Click the install button to start the install

*Please note: If you are using a newer version of OSX, you may run into an error, that the application could not be verified. If so, you will need to allow app installs from anywhere. This option was removed from the newer MAC OS, and must be turned on manually using the following method:


  1. Open the Terminal app from the /Applications/Utilities/ folder and then enter the following command syntax:

  1. Select "return" and authenticate with an admin password.

  1. Re-launch System Preferences and go to “Security & Privacy” and the “General” tab.
  2. You will now see the “Anywhere” option under "Allow from downloaded apps."
  3. Once completed open Read & Write Gold for the first time and you will be prompted to grant the software accessibility access.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete this; once done Read & Write Gold will be installed and ready to run.
