How Do I Log In with Duo Two-Factor Authentication if I Don't Have Access to My Registered Device?

Answer

All faculty, staff and students who are enrolled in Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) will need access to their registered device to be able to authenticate.

*Please note: If you do not have access to any of your 2FA registered devices (e.g., lost or broken phone), you will need a temporary passcode, which you can obtain by following the instructions below.

In the future, consider adding a second devicestoring Duo Mobile passcodes or using a YubiKey as backup authentication methods.

  1. Contact the TAC during our hours of operation by either coming to the Technology Walk-in Center on the first floor of Randall Library or by calling 910-962-4357. If you get our voicemail, leave a message, and we will call you back promptly. If you are already logged in, you can also CHAT with TAC.

  2. You will need to verify your identity with the TAC. Verification must be done visually. It requires you to show a government-issued photo ID, passport or One Card photo ID in person or through a video call via Microsoft Teams or Zoom.

  3. After verification, the TAC will assign you a temporary passcode.

  4. On the Duo authentication prompt, select “Enter a Passcode." You will need to enter the temporary passcode and then “Log In.”

*Please note: If you have a new mobile device, follow the instructions in the knowledge base article: How do I Reactivate Duo Mobile on a New or Existing Device?

If you need further assistance, submit a service request or CHAT with TAC.
